Most matches start with a face, a quiz, or a type. This one asks you to read. The sky can sit with you after, if you ask. Archetype is a way of speaking about care. Then you decide whether to knock.
The numbers
29
Theirs
eHarmony. Neil Clark Warren’s Dimensions of Compatibility. A long quiz, a match sold as a prediction of marriage. Effort plus science, behind a door.
7
Ours
Chambers. Naming, awe, the unobserved good, the Butterfly’s Trial, the wound, the shadow, a letter to a future love. Walk all seven, or one or two. What you write, you cannot like-and-skip.
1
Window
One picture. The eyes as a window, or sealed until a letter. Not a stack of faces.
3
Winks
Three invitations. Quality over a feed. A knock is not a claim, and it is not a score.
32–96
Weather
Named weights, if you open the fold. Nothing reaches one hundred. The letter still decides. The sky does not order the table.
“A ninety-six cannot write your letter. A thirty-two with a true letter may.”
This house
How we read a sheet
Hard
What the sky can measure.
Degrees. Orbs. An hour given, or not. If it cannot be re-run, it is not Hard.
Living
How a psyche wears the weather.
An office of care. A square as craft. A trine as ease that can skip the work.
Soft
What we will not let the sky do.
Not a soulmate badge. Not a cage. The other remains free.
The walk
A spine, not a quiz
0
Name
A name you answer to. Birth date, place, hour if you have it. Who you are, whom you will meet. One portrait: the eyes as a window, or sealed until a letter. What you seek. No quiz. The sheet is the sky, not a temperament inventory. Ordinary doors (age, household, faith, people) live on the veil. They never enter the score.
I–VII
Seven chambers
Naming. Awe. The unobserved good. The Butterfly’s Trial. The wound that heals. The shadow guest. A letter to a future love. This is our questionnaire. It cannot be gamed with the right adjectives. Grace is for depth, not speed. Two writings before you carry a sentence to another soul. You are not locked out. You are not yet meeting them empty-handed.
Read
The words. Then weather, if you ask
You meet a letter first. The table is the order they sat down. If you ask, two sheets can sit together by degree, not by sign costume: Sun and Moon, Venus and Mars, Sun and Venus, Moon and Mars, the rising doors if both hours are known, life path, element. You can see every weight and every orb. Without an hour we do not invent a rising, and we do not punish the match. The sky illuminates. It does not decide whom you encounter.
Three
Winks, then a letter
Three invitations. Quality over quantity. A knock is not a claim. If you write, they may answer, or not, or watch. Reciprocity is not the proof. The writing is the becoming.
People trusted eHarmony because effort plus a hidden score felt like care. We keep the effort on the pages you open. Seven rooms exist. None is a set you must finish. Two writings before you meet another soul. Three before the letter to the one who has not arrived. The sky is named, not hidden. You read the person. Then you choose.
Band V
Forty-Two Living Questions
Love. Attention. Pattern. Curiosity. Knowledge. Love again.
The Book of 42 keeps Forty-Two Living Questions. They sit in bands. Band V is the relational one. This house reads it as a loop, in our words: love becomes attention, attention finds a pattern, the pattern asks, asking becomes knowledge, knowledge returns to love. Not a quiz you finish. Not Garcia’s sentence. His work sits next door. This is how the high is refused.
A face, a score, a swipe. The nervous system spikes, then goes dark. Curiosity has nowhere to live.
Interest
The practice.
A question you can ask again next week. Love Maps. Johnson’s are you there. Aron’s other half. The loop, not the hit.
The Observatory
“What dies when curiosity goes numb?”
The Book of 42, Observatory
Certainty is the product. Interest is the practice.
The swipe sells a high. You know in a second, or you discard. This house keeps a pace you choose. The loop returns.
The secret the swipe never had
Intimacy grows
by curiosity
and disclosure
not by attraction alone
Justin R. Garcia, The Intimate Animal, 2026. Named here, in our words.
The living questionnaire
Stay curious
Dating is how you learn who a person is. Garcia named three seats of it: yourself, the other, the two of you. The Book already kept the loop.
I. Yourself
The becoming
Seven chambers. You set the pace. You cannot stay curious about another life if you will not sit with your own. Garcia’s first seat is the one the marketplace skips.
II. The other
Their letter
One window, then the words. You can tell a match by what they write. Curiosity here is not a hunt for a type. Kashdan: curiosity toward a person is what breeds intimacy. Compatibility without interest goes cold.
III. The two of you
Keep dating
Aron’s thirty-six questions were for strangers. Gottman’s Love Maps are weekly: what is alive in them now. Eight Dates can be eight letters. Garcia: stay curious about the two of you together. A match is not a finish. Ordinary interest is the weather we were missing.
Aron, 1997
The pace, not the parlor game
The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness published thirty-six questions in an appendix. We use the method: reciprocal, escalating, in order, both speak. We will not dump the list as a gimmick that claims you can fall in love with anyone. Easy first. Costly later. Our chambers walk the same stair, slower, because a life is not a lab. After both have written, the other half of the protocol is the questions you ask them.
No. 2
“Would you like to be famous? In what way?”
Arthur Aron and colleagues, question 2 of 36
No. 33
“If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told them yet?”
Arthur Aron and colleagues, question 33 of 36
This house
Seven chambers
Naming. Awe. The unobserved good. The Butterfly’s Trial. The wound. The shadow. A letter to a future love. Escalation by days, not by minutes. Reciprocal only if both offer. Personalistic because no model may write it. One-way chambers, then a letter, is half of Aron’s protocol. The other half is the questions you ask them.
“One key pattern associated with the development of a close relationship is sustained, escalating, reciprocal, personalistic self-disclosure.”
Arthur Aron and colleagues, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 1997
“When curiosity breeds intimacy.”
Todd B. Kashdan, Patrick E. McKnight, Frank D. Fincham, and Paul Rose, Journal of Personality, 2011
The letter is how this house does the experiment.
Forty-two living questions
Living questions
“What would I ask if I were not afraid of the answer?”

“Would you like to be famous? In what way?”
Arthur Aron and colleagues, 36 questions, no. 2
“What is alive in them now?”
After John and Julie Gottman, Love Maps
“Are you there for me?”
Sue Johnson, Hold Me Tight. For after someone has arrived. Not a test at the door.
“Am I becoming a partner who can stay interested?”
After Esther Perel
“If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone?”
Arthur Aron and colleagues, 36 questions, no. 33
Curiosity is not interrogation.
The other remains free not to answer. If you need the answer to stay, that is hunger, not interest.
I define vulnerability as uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure.
Brené Brown, Daring Greatly, 2012
That is the instrument. Curiosity wants to know. Vulnerability lets itself be known.
“You can tell if you're a good match based on what they write.”
Elon Musk, X all-hands, October 2023
Minutes
X all-hands · October 2023
He was asked about hiring, then about romance. The same tell, twice.
“Place more emphasis on what somebody has posted than on anything else. Have they posted interesting material? That is the single biggest indicator you would want them on a team.”
On hiring
“I think the same is true on the romantic front. Finding someone on the platform. You can tell if you are a good match based on what they write.”
On romance
He was not building synastry. He was naming language as the costly signal. Photos lie cheaply. Quizzes are adjectives. A body of writing is how a mind actually moves. That is what this house took. The sky is weather. The letter is the match.
The reaction
Two personalities
×
if there is any reaction
→
both are transformed
“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”
C. G. Jung
Kin, not copies
The field
A letter. Then you choose. The sky, if you ask.
Others use the sky as a feed, a stamp, or a swipe. This house uses it as a lens after you have read. Then three knocks. You still choose.
Names in the field
Co-Star
A social horoscope. NASA data, daily copy, add friends, compare charts, see if you are fated. The chart is a feed. Useful as a sky-mirror. It is not a house you write in, and it is not dating.
The Pattern
A personality oracle with Bonds. Connect sold dating by stamps: Soulmate, Extraordinary, Challenging. Proprietary. You can run a chart on someone who never agreed to be a specimen.
CHANI
A pocket astrologer. Transits, workbooks, the 7th house as how you relate, not a score. Zero-AI on purpose. Kin on literacy. Not a dating house. You still have to meet someone.
Stars Align, Ilios, Tinder Astrology
Swipe with a chart on the card. A 1 to 10, or a sun-sign overlay, then the same thumb. The sky is bait for the old loop. We will not put a natal on a swipe.
Sanctuary, Nebula
Oracle chat. A human astrologer by the minute, or a compatibility calculator plus psychics. Guidance as a product. This house will not interpret you for a fee, and will not tell you who is safe from a sun sign.
eHarmony
A long quiz, twenty-nine dimensions, a match as a prediction of success. Effort plus science, behind a door. We keep the effort on the pages you open. Seven rooms exist. You choose which.
When the hour is unknown
Many people do not know the minute they arrived. That is common. The Moon moves about twelve degrees in a day, so without an hour we read her sign at noon and do not pretend at minutes. Sun, Venus, Mars still speak. The rising stays unrevealed. We would rather you write than guess.
I. Sheet
The sky as weather
Two natal sheets in conversation, by degree, with named orbs: conjunction and opposition 8°, trine 8°, square 7°, sextile 5°. Sign-only was a costume of certainty. Sun and Moon, Venus and Mars, Sun and Venus, Moon and Mars. The rising doors, when both hours are known. Life path. Element. 42 is not an aspect here. That looking stays in the Book. If an hour is missing, the door stays closed and the sheet rescales. The letter is the threshold.
II. Word
What they write
A public line, 2023: you can tell if you are a good match based on what they write. Love Again asked if you could fall in love through words. Garcia, 2026: intimacy grows by curiosity and disclosure, not by attraction alone. Two-way: to the self, and to the one who has not arrived. Optional: a song, a poem, a work you find beautiful. Taste is a window, not a score. If you will not write, this house will feel shut, and that is allowed. We are for a different seeker.
III. Work
The inner pair
Seven rooms, at your pace. A high score with an unworked shadow will still fail. A way of caring is not a character you wear. The letter is how anyone finds out who is home.
IV. Will
Agency, the last mile
Three knocks. No chart can send the letter for you, or require an answer. The sky may name a way of caring. You still have to live it.
On the table
Sheet weights
Orbs
8° / 8° / 7° / 5°
Conjunction and opposition 8°. Trine 8°. Square 7°. Sextile 5°. Same sign without the angle is not weather. 42° is not an aspect in this house.
Sun × Moon
up to 36
Each direction: conjunction 18, trine 14, opposition 12, sextile 10, square 7. If a Moon is a noon reading, that direction falls back to sign so we do not fake minutes.
Venus × Mars
up to 31
The erotic circuit, weighted a little quieter than Sol × Luna so desire does not drown care. Not gendered.
Sun × Venus
up to 25
Being and cherishing. Quieter still. Visibility without a stamp.
Moon × Mars
up to 27
Feeling and the will to move. Heat in the nervous system. Noon Moons stay at sign.
Rising doors
up to 18
Only if both hours are known, by orb. Offices may still meet when the angle does not. Missing an hour is not a fail. The sheet rescales.
Life path
12
Same number: a shared road. Adjacent, or summing to ten: related homework, not the same one.
Element
8
Same element: less translation. Fire with air, earth with water: they feed each other when neither tries to win.
Floor and ceiling
32 to 96
A quiet chart still has a floor. Nothing reaches one hundred.
The last mile

Hinge said it was designed to be deleted.

Tinder said the face was enough.

eHarmony said it could predict a marriage.
“A bid is any attempt from one partner to another for attention, affirmation, affection, or any other positive connection.”
John Gottman, The Relationship Cure, 2001
Colophon
The machine is named so it can be re-run. Weights change only in daylight, with names. Toward, away, rest on a received letter is how a person answers, not how a feed hunts time.
If the letter is true, stay and read. If the geometry is faint, you may still be the chemical. You still have to write.
